A great marinade for flavoring Pumfu similar to a chicken stock. Perfect for preparing Pumfu to be grilled!
Ingredients
- 2 blocks Pumfu

- ¾ cup nutritional yeast
- ¾ to 1 cup soy sauce
- 2 TBSP granulated onion
- 2 tsp black pepper
- 2 tsp poultry seasoning
- Dash of cumin
Instructions
- Cut each Pumfu block into 4 slices, for a total of 8 slices. They should be approximately 2” x 4” x 1.5”
- Whisk ingredients together in a medium saucepan
- Lay Pumfu slices in the marinade in the pan. Alternate directions so that that the slices are separated and submerged
- Bring to boil on medium to high heat. Boil for 5 minutes. Turn down to simmer and cook for about 2 hours
- Marinade should taste strong and somewhat salty to give maximum flavor absorption to the Pumfu
- Store Pumfu slices in marinade until use. Will keep up to 7 days in refrigerator or you can freeze individual pieces of Pumfu for later use
**PRO TIP – This basic recipe for Pumfu is a building block for multiple Pumfu recipes. It is beneficial to do a larger quantity and have it frozen for convenient later use
